Casons Update

We've had an exciting couple of days. Cason finally came home yesterday from the hospital. The doctors sent him home on an anti fungal medicine to continue treatment. He really has had a tough time bouncing back from this infection , but finally today he is acting more like himself.

As most of you know today we had our initial evaluation at Egleston. We took our potential donors and began this process. It was a long day and the doctors, surgeon and nurses were great by explaining the transplant process to us and by anwsering all of our questions. Today we were reminded that this transplant is a treatment for Cason, not a cure. With this, we were reminded of the importance of Casons anti rejection medicines. He will be on these meds forever or until technology advances to the point that doctors can "grow" a kidney from his own cells. One doctor told us that transplanted kidneys could potentially last for thirty years under prime circumstances. This would be amazing! The staff there also told us that we are trying to have this transplant probably before the new year. However, a lot has to happen before this can take place. Cason will be getting a port soon, we will finalize the donor and a lot of testing and treatment will happen. We will keep y'all updated on what is happening. We are so excited that this time is finally here. We do continue to covet your prayers. Thanks for all the support!
