Port.

We forgot to post this earlier in the week, but Cason had surgery today. Since it looks like our new fluid/formula plan is working fairly well we had his PICC line removed and a port put in. He did really well both during and after the procedure, which we were very thankful for because last time he had a pretty bad reaction to the anesthesia. Other than being a little sore he is doing great.

Our home health nurse stopped by the house this afternoon to teach us how to access the port. We're a little nervous about doing it, but after a while it shouldn't be too big a deal. Our nurse Amy had us practice on an apple, so hopefully once we go to poking on Cason we'll have it perfected!

Please pray that Cason is able to stay hydrated and healthy. We just got word that there is a chance that he may be able to have his transplant around Thanksgiving, which would be amazing! Bob is working out the details of the next round of testing right now, so we'll know more really soon. Also, please pray for Jackson as he has another ear infection. We started an antibiotic today, so hopefully we can knock it out quickly.

Thanks! We love you guys!

Breast Cancer 3 Day 2008

We had a great 3 Day weekend. Thanks so much for all of those who supported me. This weekend 8.3 million dollars was raised in helping to find a cure. The walk was amazing and the stories that we heard were encouraging. We met several women that reminded us of mom with similar attitudes and mindsets. It was an honor walking in her memory. Thanks again for your support and for making this past weekend possible for me.

Our little stinker!

So Cason has not only learned to walk over the past few weeks, but apparently he has figured out how to climb, too. I came into the living room this afternoon to find him on top of his piano!

This is after I helped him down!

The Rock Ranch Pumpkin Day

Sunday we had a fun fall day at the Rock Ranch. The weather was perfect and the kids enjoyed seeing each other. We saw the petting zoo, took a cow train ride, played in the corn house and had a lot of fun together. We are also so thankful that Cason was able to be there. We have been experimenting with his IV fluids since his levels have been unstable and hopefully we have found a combination of different things to keep him hydrated.

This week we have been busy with doctor appointments. Monday Cason got released from his Urologist to have transplant. The doctor confirmed that his bladder is to size and is functioning well. Today we met with his surgeon to discuss plans for a port. As of now it looks like he will be able to get the port, which is good because of the decreased risk of infection, as compared with another central line. We will go for both pre-op and the procedure next week. It should be an outpatient procedure, but we've learned not to get our hopes up...

Tomorrow Cason has to go back to Egleston for some more blood work to re-check for Mono. Right now most of the doctors feel like he has had an exposure (which we knew was likely since B.G. had it) but that he does not have the full blown virus. We'll know more later in the week.

The surgeons and other transplant staff met today and it looks like Big Daddy (Bob) is going to be the donor that will move on to the next round of testing. Our insurance company has 14 days to approve the next step, so we'll let you know once this all gets rolling.

Thanks for your prayers!

Mono...again

I thought that we had escaped the whole mono deal without too much issue, but we just found out today that Cason has come down with it. As it turns out, when babies have the virus they usually just look and act like they have a cold and that's pretty much the deal with him.

Unfortunately some blood work also showed that Cason's BUN level is sky high (his level is 130 and normal is under 20), which means that he is very dehydrated and our new fluid plan is not working. It's crazy because he looks and acts like nothing in the world is wrong, which is great, but it makes it tough for us to know when something's going on.

He is motoring around like a champ and he is into everything! He is much more mischievous than Jackson and he will disappear in a second if we take our eyes off of him. The other day we were all playing outside and we looked around and couldn't find him. It took a minute, but we found him sitting straight up underneath our van, just hanging out! He had chased after a ball and decided that it was a cool place to be so he just stayed there.

So...we aren't really sure how the mono is going to affect the whole transplant deal at this point. We do know that he can't have the surgery until it's gone, so please pray that it will leave quickly! Pray, too, that after the mono is gone we are able to keep him healthy. We are definitely going to have to start being a bit more cautious and germ-a-phobic, especially as we move into cold and flu season. We have never been ones to carry tons of alcohol gel around and freak out when our boys drink out of someone else's cup, but I guess that we'll have to be more careful.

Sorry for the long post. We'll let you know what we find out.

Crafty!

We had a great time today with our friends Ashley Wells and her kids Jackson and Kate. We made cookies, painted pumpkins, made tie dye pumpkin T-Shirts, played and had a lot of fun. It is so great to be home and enjoy our friends.
